The Country music industry is reeling from news of another mass shooting, this time at a CALIFORNIA Country nightclub last night (11/7) during College Night, where at least 12 people were killed when a gunman opened fire at BORDERLINE BAR & GRILL in THOUSAND OAKS, CA at around 11p (PT).
A VENTURA COUNTY Sheriff’s Deputy was among the victims, according to CNN. Another dozen people were injured. The suspected shooter is among the dead. THE DAILY BEAST is reporting that some ROUTE 91 survivors were at the BORDERLINE when the shooting occurred.
Witnesses say bar patrons were line dancing when the shooting began in a bar packed with patrons for College Night. VENTURA COUNTY Sheriff GEOFF DEAN described the scene as “horrific.”
iHEARTMEDIA nationally syndicated personality BOBBY BONES tweeted, “So sad. Hate that people are living this.” CUMULUS nationally syndicated "NASH NIGHTS LIVE" co-host SHAWN PARR tweeted, “Not acceptable!!! My kids know some of these people, and it’s been a loooong morning so far. Not good. Praying for our officer and all those that lost their lives.”
Another mass shooting, the OCTOBER 2017 LAS VEGAS massacre at the ROUTE 91 HARVEST FESTIVAL, also hit the Country music community particularly hard.
BEASLEY/CHARLOTTE OM JOHN REYNOLDS, who oversees Country WSOC as well as Urban AC WBAV, Urban WPEG, AC WKQC, and Top 40 WNKS, commented, "This shooting in CALIFORNIA last night at the BORDERLINE NIGHT CLUB is really sad. But it's sadly no different from any of the other random shootings in recent memory, such as the horrific PITTSBURGH synagogue shooting, the gay night club shooting, to the PARKLAND, FL STONEMAN DOUGLAS HIGH SCHOOL massacre, and then the ROUTE 91 mass shooting in LAS VEGAS last year ... this sad list goes on and on. This is not a Country music issue ... it's a mental health issue. This shooter may not even have known it was a Country night."
So far in 2018, there have been 298 mass shooting in the UNITED STATES. "I own a car and drive to work but don't need a NASCAR-style vehicle to go to work," REYNOLDS continued. "I believe in the Second Amendment, but also believe certain types of military-style guns are not necessary for the general public to own, and there are certain types of ammunition that shouldn't be available. I am a pilot, and I cannot buy a military aircraft as a civilian ... the real problem is that this a mental illness issue, and the wrong types of weapons falling into the wrong hands. Something needs to change."
